Malcolm Edwards is the Arthur Dent of the 21st century.

When Earth needs a representative, the system doesn’t choose the best person — it chooses the most convenient one.

Final Oversight

At no point did anyone think to ask Malcolm if he wanted the role.

A routine bureaucratic process identifies the need for a representative of Earth. The criteria are satisfied. The appointment is logged. Responsibility is assigned.

Malcolm is informed after the fact.

He is not chosen for his insight, courage, or leadership. He is selected because the system requires a name in a box, and his happens to fit. From that moment on, he becomes the official point of contact for matters far larger than any individual should reasonably be expected to understand—let alone carry.

What follows is not a story of heroism or rebellion, but of meetings, documentation, and carefully worded decisions. Authority diffuses upward. Responsibility flows downward. Accountability quietly disappears.

Final Oversight is a quiet science-fiction novel about bureaucracy, representation, and the unsettling consequences of systems that function exactly as designed. It explores what happens when impersonal processes are allowed to make deeply personal decisions—and when the weight of an entire planet is placed, politely and procedurally, onto one ordinary person.
